What is Mindfulness?

Picture
In the midst of a busy, often chaotic world where distraction with media and more busyness is often the default, whether facing challenging inner and outer experiences, or when in a happy moment, mindfulness is a means to turn towards whatever is here, find space, and enter the fullness of being human. If you wish to practice a guided meditation feel free to do so here.

Who is it for?

Cultivating mindfulness is a way to really be here for the life we are living rather than being caught up in thinking about our life. In doing so, the ease, joy and peace of freedom may flourish.

Studies have shown the possibility of decreasing anxiety, recurrent depression, insomnia, chronic pain and fatigue as well as improving mood, emotional intelligence, immunity, several medical conditions (including hypertension, fibromyalgia, binge eating, diabetes, psoriasis and irritable bowel syndrome) and enhancing the ability to cope with stressful life situations (including cancer). More information on these and other studies may be found at “In the News” and “Research” pages.

This program may help anyone experiencing stress of mind and body; anyone who wishes to suffer less and know well-being. In this deeply human experience we call our life, isn't this all of us?

Testimonials

“I've discovered what is here beneath the noise (in my head and in the world) and found the capacity to have more ease and happiness.” –Robert
I feel like I have been let out of jail... more in touch with my feelings and know how to better respond to worry and anxiety, especially as it relates to my health. I don't need to panic that things will get out of control. I am in control if remaining in this moment and don't allow fear of the future to control me.”       –Julie
“The opportunity provided by this class has changed my life. It's no exaggeration. Less stress and much more joy. Besides that, I sleep better! It would benefit all of us to have a mindfulness practice.” –Bill
“I used to feel that I was living from chronic pain and suffering as a starting point every day. Through mindfulness practice learned in the MBSR class with Dr. Beck-Coon, I find not only a decrease in the pain, but more importantly, the pain no longer has a hold over me.” –Ann
“The practice of cultivating present moment awareness supports my goals of having balance and keeping life simple. It has been and continues to be a source of nourishment for personal growth, healing, understanding, and clarity of thought.” –Jim
“I am calmer and feel an inner sense of well-being and self-acceptance. I have learned that I am actually capable of taking care of myself-- and I'm doing it! The class was a wonderful, life changing experience.” –Mary
